Two Wheels to auction Barry Sheene Dainese replica suit at GP of Champions

The one-of-a-kind replica leathers, worn by Barry's son, Freddie Sheene, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, were signed by Steve Parrish and Kenny Roberts, and will feature in the Two Wheels GP of Champions auction at the Grand Prix of Great Britain on Saturday, August 8.

Two Wheels for Life is thrilled to announce a very special auction item for the GP of Champions at the Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Great Britain on Saturday, August 8 at Silverstone–a set of replica Barry Sheene leathers designed by Dainese commemorating 50 years since the first of his two world championships in 1976.
Barry’s son Freddie wore the leathers across four days at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, riding a collection of his father’s bikes to mark the occasion. Freddie will attend the Two Wheels auction and hopes that the suit will raise valuable funds for Two Wheels.

“In a wonderful gesture from Dainese and Freddie, the leathers will later star in our Two Wheels for Life auction on Saturday at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone,” said Two Wheels Founder and CEO Andrea Coleman. “It seems so fitting that we will all be able to remember and celebrate the glorious race between Barry and Kenny Roberts at that truly iconic circuit. It is still viewed by fans and experts alike as one of the greatest motorcycle races of all time.”

Barry was an early Dainese user and worked tirelessly with Lino Dainese (who formed Dainese in 1972) to help develop the kit to better protect riders. Barry was instrumental in developing the back protector that is universally used today – both on track and on road.

“I travelled over to Dainese’s HQ in Italy early April to get measured for the suit,” said Freddie. “It was so cool to see my father’s old leathers and photos of him everywhere, and it was an honour to meet Lino Dainese who my father worked so closely. It was a very special day!”

“It’ll be fitting to hold the auction for Two Wheels for Life at Silverstone as I know the circuit played host to some of my father’s most memorable races,” said Freddie. “Let’s hope the suit finds a good new home, for a great bid!”

Dainese were keen to be involved with this special anniversary as they know how much they owe Barry for his early work with their founder, and pledged to make a 2026 full ‘Custom Works’ suit for Freddie.

“The leathers honour a great rider and whoever wins them at our auction will have a priceless memento of Barry’s life, his courage and his talent. And of course they will also be bringing vital support in helping Riders for Health’s motorcycles to deliver health care to women and children in Africa,” said Coleman.

“On a very personal note, Barry Sheene and I were childhood friends, both junior citizens of the Grand Prix Paddock in those now far-off days. We never stopped fighting. It was fabulous. Thank you, Freddie, Dainese, Goodwood, Silverstone and, above all, Barry. We miss you!”
