End of Year Report 2023

Find out how we raised funds, and the life-saving impact we made in 2023.

With our biggest year of fundraising since before the pandemic, we are delighted to be back on track with our humanitarian goals, providing vital support to award winning Riders for Health transport for healthcare programmes across Africa that save lives day-in, day out!

Fundraising

As the official charity of  MotoGP™ and the FIM, we again brought fans up-close to the sport they love, offering behind-the-scenes access at our MotoGP™ experience days, unique experiences & memorabilia auctions, prize draws and of course our annual Day of Champions event as part of the Monster Energy British Grand Prix. MotoGP™ continued to be our biggest income generator in 2023, thanks to the support of Dorna, IRTA, the FIM and all teams and riders throughout the series.

We also returned to the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship at Donington Park, celebrating our biggest year yet. In front of a monster crowd, we hosted two rider memorabilia auctions and a rider concert. What a weekend it was, and thanks to an incredibly generous crowd, the overall total raised was our highest ever!

We were delighted to work with two rising stars from the worlds of adventure and rally riding. Vanessa Ruck “Girl on a Bike” and Noraly Schoenmaker “Itchy Boots” both brought attention to what we do to their substantial online audiences as well as help us raise valuable funds.

On the road, we travelled to motorcycle events around the UK with the help of our incredible volunteers. Thanks to the generous organisers this year was our most successful Malle Mile auction to date. We also made it to the Adventure Bike Rider festival and Motorcycle Live at the NEC, both events were great chances to meet people and share what we do face-to-face.

And finally, working for the second year with Yamaha Motor Europe we were again the official sponsor of the Yamaha World Raid Rally Team and ran successful prize draws and auctions with them throughout the year. Thanks to everybody at Yamaha who has been so supportive.

Impact

Lesotho, healthworker, mother, child, motorcycle

Two Wheels for Life was able to support the life saving work of our sister organisation, Riders for Health to ensure healthcare continues to be accessible to those who need it, using motorcycles and other vehicles.

Together, we saved and improved many lives in 2023.

What we've achieved

32 Yamaha motorcycles

We delivered 32 motorcycles to Riders for Health The Gambia which is urgently replacing aging vehicles that risk breaking down if they are run past their lifetime. In The Gambia motorcycles deliver vital healthcare including bed nets to prevent malaria, pre and postnatal care, vaccines and many more life saving interventions.

Support for cyclone victims in Malawi

Malawi was hit by a cyclone in early 2023. Entire community health facilities - hospitals and clinics - were either destroyed or damaged leaving already-challenged communities with no health care - at a time they needed it most. One of Riders Malawi’s staff members lost their entire home. Two Wheels for Life supported families affected.

Digital & technical upgrade

Our project to digitise all the Riders for Health programmes continued as we secured donations of vehicle tracker hardware, route optimisation software, development of A.I. technology to support data accuracy, development of drone utilisation to support sample transport, mobile data collection apps for Riders staff in order to deliver a better and more cost effective service.

46 Health workers trained + staff development

In remote regions in mountainous Lesotho we funded the training of health workers. Reliable sample transport ensures speedy diagnosis and the ability to start life-saving treatment for conditions such as TB and HIV as quickly as possible. We secured opportunities for Riders African staff to share skills and knowledge with others working in the NGO sector.

Programme expansion

Funding received from Two Wheels for Life allowed work to be carried out to expand our network in Nigeria, building our reach across more states in order to reach ever more people with improved life-saving healthcare.

Thank you and see you next year!

Through your support health care is reaching more people in Lesotho, The Gambia, Nigeria and Malawi and we have helped save and improve millions of lives throughout Africa.

We would like to thank all the organisations and individuals who have supported us throughout 2023 and recognise our colleagues across Africa who make sure the funds we raise are used to get healthcare to those who need it most, no matter how remote.

We hope you all have a wonderful end to the year and we look forward to seeing you in 2024!
