Day of Champions 2018 Raises a Record £290,300

There was non-stop live entertainment and fun for the 5,200 strong audience. Highlights included the ride-in of 100+ motorbikes onto the Silverstone track, the announcement of the British Talent Cup stars of 2019 and Suzi Perry’s camper van interviews!

Day of Champions is a great opportunity for Two Wheels for Life to bring supporters and riders together, with fans getting to see a side of the teams they otherwise would not. Backflips with Johann Zarco, candid chats with Scott Redding and shoulder-ride selfies with Marc Marquez! The paddock was also opened up to a selection of lucky people who had the chance to watch the riders preparing for the race, collect autographs and even have a quick chat and selfie.

The day ended with a thrilling live auction raising an incredible £103,670, with prizes donated by Dorna, Triumph Motorcycles and the MotoGP™  teams. Bidders had the chance to win exclusive items including track drawings by MotoGP™ stars, hospitality experiences from several teams at the 2018 British Grand Prix and, from Triumph Motorcycles, the chance for a lucky bidder to not only attend their New Motorcycle Press Launch in Europe next spring, but also be one of the first to ride their new bike. Items including a selfie with Valentino Rossi, an Ohlins Shock signed by all the MotoGP riders and an oil drum chair dedicated to and signed by Valentino Rossi all went for an amazing £3,000 each.

Day of Champions raised a staggering grand total of £290,300 for Two Wheels for Life, the official charity of MotoGP™ and the FIM . Craig and his son Cameron were the highest bidder for a selfie with Valentino Rossi, Craig said of the experience:

“Cameron has always wanted a selfie with Valentino Rossi and that’s what made me bid. We come to the MotoGP™ every year and it was fantastic to get that selfie with him and it all goes to charity.”

Day of Champions is now in its 29th year of raising money for healthcare projects in some of the poorest and most remote areas of Sub-Saharan Africa, but it wouldn’t be possible without the support of the teams and riders of MotoGP™, charity founder Randy Mamola said:

“Day of Champions is a stunning example of how dedicated everybody in MotoGP™ is to improving the lives of those less fortunate than themselves. From Dorna and FIM to the teams and riders, everybody is fully committed to the day. They make it the incredible show that it is.”

Hope to see you all at next year’s event!
